Fix Elgato Cam Link video is freezing upon launching Games / Screen Sharing Apps, with PCIe 4.0 Graphics cards and motherboards

Update 2021/03/13: See Gamers Nexus YouTube Video for the latest on this issue. AMD AGEASA should fix this issue when available (early April 2021). Setting your BIOS to PCIe 3.0 is still a work around that works for some.

Issue: Your Elgato Cam Link 4K video freezes upon launching certain games or starting screen sharing.

Examples of Issue:

  • Cam Link video freezes in OBS when launching your game.
  • Cam Link video freezes in your Video Conferencing application (Webex, Zoom, etc), when you start sharing your screen.
  • You have to unplug your Cam Link from the USB and plug it back in to fix it.

Solution: Set your video card to PCIe 3.0 in your motherboard BIOS.

Within BIOS go to Advanced, then select Onboard Devices Configuration
Then select PCIEX16_1 Mode and change to GEN 3
