Fix Elgato Cam Link video is freezing upon launching Games / Screen Sharing Apps, with PCIe 4.0 Graphics cards and motherboards

Update 2021/03/13: See Gamers Nexus YouTube Video for the latest on this issue. AMD AGEASA 1.2.0.2 should fix this issue when available (early April 2021). Setting your BIOS to PCIe 3.0 is still a work around that works for some.

Issue: Your Elgato Cam Link 4K video freezes upon launching certain games or starting screen sharing.

Examples of Issue:

  • Cam Link video freezes in OBS when launching your game.
  • Cam Link video freezes in your Video Conferencing application (Webex, Zoom, etc), when you start sharing your screen.
  • You have to unplug your Cam Link from the USB and plug it back in to fix it.

Environment:

Solution: Set your video card to PCIe 3.0 in your motherboard BIOS.

Within BIOS go to Advanced, then select Onboard Devices Configuration
Then select PCIEX16_1 Mode and change to GEN 3
